Hiatal Hernia / GERD VA disability rating criteria

The VA rates Hiatal Hernia / GERD under 38 CFR 4.114, Diagnostic Code 7346. Below are the schedular rating levels exactly as written in the rating schedule.

Rating levels

• 10%

  Rated as esophageal stricture (DC 7203): documented history requiring daily medications to control dysphagia, otherwise asymptomatic.

• 30%

  Rated as esophageal stricture (DC 7203): recurrent stricture causing dysphagia requiring dilatation no more than 2 times per year.

• 50%

  Rated as esophageal stricture (DC 7203): recurrent or refractory stricture causing dysphagia requiring dilatation 3+ times per year, steroid dilatation at least once per year, or stent placement.

• 80%

  Rated as esophageal stricture (DC 7203): recurrent or refractory stricture causing dysphagia with aspiration, undernutrition, or substantial weight loss, plus surgical correction or a PEG tube.
